Welcome to Perth! Located in Western Australia, it lies in the coastal area nearby Darling Ranges. Swan River flows in its centre. Point Walter is a popular fishing destination in the area. Perth has a quiet atmosphere perfect for relaxation. It has uncrowded beaches and a well preserved landscape. Among these beaches is Cottesloe Beach which is between the city’s CBD and Fremantle City.
Aside from the normal beaches, there is a clothing-optional beach at Swanbourne. Should you venture further to Fremantle Coast, you can also visit Rottnest Island which is just 19 kilometers away. Perth’s history dates back 40,000 years ago, the time when the place was inhabited by the Nyoogar Tribe. It was in 1829 when the British came and Perth became a part of Swan River Colony. The gold rush in Perth during the 1890′s along with the discovery of other mineral reserves made a great impact on the city’s economy. Speaking of gold, there is this old minting place called Perth Mint along Hay Street which still sells gold bars, gold bullions, jewellery and other gold souvenirs.
As you get around the CBD, you may pass by one of its main streets, either Barrack St. or St. Georges Terrace. In East Perth District, you can pass the time at Gloucaster Park. Kings park, Forrest Place, Langley Park and Burswood park are other parks where you can stroll on a sunny day. Those shopaholics would be happy to know that Harbor Town in Perth has more than a hundred outlet stores. Hay Street Mall and London Court are also good shopping locations. Government buildings like the Parliament House, Perth Town Hall and Perth Council House are more than just stone structures, these majestic buildings have become landmarks and attractions of Perth as well.
There are also historical ruins in Perth like the Barracks Arch. Those who likes broadway entertainment should check the schedules at Playhouse Theater and Majesty Theater. The Perth Cultural Center nearby Perth Train Station is a place to know more about Perth’s visual and performance arts. Similar to London Wheel is the Wheel of Excellence, which give its passengers a 13 minute ride overlooking the city. Swan Bells is a modern structure near the ferry wharf. It is a bell tower and a viewing deck in one. Nature lovers would also enjoy the beautiful sights of Perth’s landscape. Mountaineers who climb the height of Bluff Knoll, the highest peak of Stirling Range, would surely marvel the 360º degree vantage point.
The Shire of Kalamunda below Darling Scarp Hills is known for its orchards and vineyards. For those who love sports, there is an event during November called Red Bull Air Race, which is attended by thousands of viewers. There are a lot of hotels, apartelles and lodges to spend the night in Perth. Miss Maud Swedish Hotel is one of a kind because of its smorgasboard restaurant and 14 pastry houses. Just imagine such a sweet and delicious vacation there!
